Schools Poetry Competition

Poems mean Prizes

Your chance to win £250 for the best individual entry plus £1,000 for your school.

We are looking for the best original poetry that captures or expresses the fears, hopes and experiences of those caught up in conflict. You may choose to write about the war of 100 years ago or about any of the many conflicts that surround us today.

Our competition is open to all schools in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire and is supported by The University of Gloucestershire and the Friends of the Dymock Poets, who will be involved in selecting the best entries.

Selected poems will be published on our website and at the end of the project we will publish in hardback and online an anthology sharing your work with those famous poets from 100 years ago.

Entering the competition could not be simpler. Simply register your interest by downloading the form and return by email to

> Download Poems Mean Prizes registration form

On receipt of your form we will send you an information pack, a book of poems from the period covering the first world war and useful links to information sources.

Final date for entries is 31 August 2016.

We are looking forward to enjoying your poems.
